An Open Letter re: Fake Tea Party Candidate -- and Obvious Democratic Party Plant -- Peter DeStefano

The following is an open letter that is being sent to New Jersey's Director of Elections, Robert Giles:

September 20, 2010

Mr. Robert Giles
Director of Elections
225 West State Street
Trenton, NJ 08608

Mr. Giles,

I write to you to call for a formal investigation into the candidacy of Peter DeStefano in New Jersey's 3rd congressional district (NJ-3). The evidence shows that Mr. DeStefano's campaign is rooted in fraud, and as such, his name should not be permitted on November's ballot as the voters in NJ-3 select their next congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Even the Newark Star-Ledger recognizes that something is amiss, in a July 25th editorial entitled "Did Adler camp plant a fake candidate?":

http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2010/07/did_adler_camp_plant_a_fake_ca.html

Among the questions that New Jersey voters deserve answered:

* Current incumbent (and Democrat) John Adler claims that none of his current staff members has worked on DeStefano's campaign -- but what about past (including recent past) staff members?

* For example, how is it that out of thousands upon thousands of NJ-3 voters, of the 247 signatures on DeStefano's filing documents, one of them is Marshall Spevak, the December 2007-November 2008 Press Assistant for John Adler?

* The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that at present, "Spevak lives just doors from Adler" on the very same street! How close are Spevak and his family (multiple Spevaks signed DeStefano's candidacy documents) to Adler and his family, especially given that Spevak used to work for Adler, and that various Spevaks have donated thousands of dollars to Adler and other Democratic Party candidates?

* Given Spevak's involvement, and the fact that both notaries that signed off on DeStefano's filing documents are politically active Democrats, what other Democrats -- and Democratic Party officials -- were/are involved in DeStefano's campaign?

* How many of the other 246 signatures belong to politically active Democrats? How many of these have explicit ties to John Adler?

* DeStefano claims that a friend of his son's circulated the petition that Spevak signed. Why was DeStefano unable to name or produce his son's friend when asked to by the Philadelphia Inquirer? Does this supposed acquaintance even exist? Who really obtained Spevak's signature?

* Did any Democratic Party members collect signatures for DeStefano? If so, how many, and who are they?

* Why, in an interview with PolitickerNJ.com, why did DeStefano indicate that he left the Republican Party to become an independent, when in fact it was the Democratic Party that he left to become an independent?

* DeStefano filed his candidacy on June 8th, but was a registered Democrat until June 3rd. How many of the 247 signatures in his campaign filing were collected when DeStefano was still a registered Democrat?

* Why had no legitimate grassroots tea party organization in New Jersey ever heard of DeStefano prior to his candidacy?

* Why has not a single legitimate grassroots tea party organization in New Jersey announced its support for DeStefano's candidacy?

* Why does DeStefano claim to have "tried to get in on the Michael Smerconish debate" between Runyan and Adler, when the Michael Smerconish Show radio program director says that DeStefano never contacted them in this regard?

* Why has DeStefano -- an independent candidate with little money or name recognition -- agreed (multiple times) to be interviewed by reporter Jane Roh of the Courier-Post newspaper (as best as we can tell, the largest daily newspaper in terms of circulation based in South Jersey), only to back out of these scheduled interviews every single time?

* Were any laws broken -- for example, laws against fraud?

The state of Michigan recently began conducting some of their own investigations into Fake Tea Party Candidates/Democratic Party plants, and decided that 23 candidates would not be permitted on its ballots this November. In addition, criminal investigations regarding multiple individuals involved with the Fake Tea Party Candidates in Michigan are ongoing as of this writing.

Michigan takes the integrity of its ballots seriously. It is my hope that New Jersey will choose to do the same, by investigating Mr. DeStefano's candidacy, by not permitting his name to be on NJ-3 ballots this November, and by seriously pursuing criminal charges should they be warranted.

I look forward to your reply at the phone number below. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.

Kind regards,
Mark Kalinowski

An Open Letter to the Montclair Times re: Congressman Pascrell's Support for his Violent Employee

The following is an open letter to the Montclair Times:

(FYI, the following was e-mailed to the Montclair Times at contactus@montclairtimes.com)

To the Editor:

The Montclair Times recently saw fit to provide some unsolicited advice to 8th congressional district candidate Roland Straten, in which your paper advised Mr. Straten to "move on," and added that " The Times suggests there may be more productive ways to spend his time than lobbying Montclair to use public space for political purposes."

Source: http://www.northjersey.com/news/opinions/101535588_Public__political.html

Since the Montclair Times is willing to provide unsolicited advice, perhaps it will be open-minded as I provide it some unsolicited advice.

First, your paper is to be commended for accurately reporting that "Ann Mega, [Congressman Bill] Pascrell’s field representative, physically pushed Roland Straten, Pascrell’s Republican challenger, out of the chambers" during Pascrell's August 9th Forum on Senior Issues in Montclair. The paper deserves praise for noting that "Mega put her hands on him and pushed him out of the room, an action witnessed by a Times reporter."

Second, I appreciate that you published a letter to the editor that I submitted to you regarding this Pascrell staffer's violent attack on me only 10-15 minutes after she physically attacked Mr. Straten:

http://www.northjersey.com/news/opinions/letters/101051084_Letter_to_the_editor__Staffer_attacks_two_people_at_meeting.html

Third, I was disappointed in your editoral regarding Mr. Straten and the events at Mr. Pascrell's Forum on Senior Issues. Pascrell's employee resorted to violence in an attempt to infringe upon the free-speech rights of Mr. Straten and myself. This is a serious issue, and I am surprised that it went completely unmentioned in your editorial regarding the events of that day and related issues.

The government is delegated the right to use force so that it can properly perform its most important function: the protection of all individuals' moral rights. Thus, it is especially pernicious when the entity that is supposed to be defending the rights of individuals becomes instead the violator of those rights.

It is bad enough that Pascrell's employee violently attacked two individuals who were peacefully attending a forum advertised as being open to the public, and on public property. It is even worse that to date, Pascrell continues to defend his violent employee's thuggish actions, rather than firing her, as she deserves.

The North New Jersey Tea Party Group (of which I am founder) will have additional words to say about this matter in the near future. And, we will continue to call for Pascrell to fire Ann Mega, and to apologize for supporting her violent attempts to squelch free-speech rights.

In the meantime, I suggest that you consider writing an editorial condemning the violence of Pascrell's employee, and Pascrell's shameful attempts to protect his thug employee through his spokesman's lame efforts to lie about what happened.

Should you require additional details about what happened, and some context as to Pascrell's ongoing contempt for the governed, I suggest that you click on all of the following links:

Did Congressman Pascrell (D-NJ) Enlist a PR Flack to Spread Falsehoods About His Employee's Violent Behavior?

It has been nearly two weeks since Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr's staffer Ann Mega violently attacked two of Pascrell's peaceful constituents -- one of them a senior citizen, the other... me -- at a public forum in Montclair, New Jersey on August 9th -- and Pascrell continues to show his support for his thug employee in several ways (refusing to fire her, sending out his spokesman to lie about what happened, etc.)

Did Pascrell also enlist a public relations (PR) flack to spread falsehoods about his employee's violent behavior?

Four days after the incidents -- on August 13th -- an article appeared on Baristanet.com entitled "Mid-Term Election Season Shoves Off -- Or Does It?" As of this writing, this article can be accessed via:

http://www.baristanet.com/2010/08/mid-term_election_season_shove.php

As I read through the article, it became clear to me that its author -- Erika Bleiberg -- was spinning everything in it in Pascrell's favor. For example:

* The article's title subtly suggests that perhaps nobody was physically shoved -- even though a Montclair Times reporter personally witnessed the senior citizen in question being shoved, and nobody in Pascrell's camp denies that this happened.

* Bleiberg apparently contacted Paul Brubaker, Pascrell's spokesman: "When Baristanet talked with Paul Brubaker...". No such attempt was made to contact me, even though I am easily found through Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

* Bleiberg swallows whole the obvious fiction that Ann Mega shoving me is a "'he said/she said' scenario" -- when in fact there were multiple witnesses, and multiple witnesses have come forward backing up my assertion that Pascrell's employee violently attacked me. And in fact, Mega has not publicly commented on the matter at all, preferring to hide behind Pascrell via Pascrell's spokesman. Contrast this with my approach -- since (unlike Pascrell and Mega) I have nothing to hide, I have been very open and public with my comments that I was physically attacked. In other words, this is not a 'he said/she said' scenario at all!

* Bleiberg apparently never gets around to one highly obvious question any curious person would think to ask of Pascrell's spokesman: why should we believe that Mega never shoved me, when just 10-15 minutes earlier, she shoved a senior citizen, an action witnessed by a reporter for the Montclair Times, and an action which nobody denies -- not even Pascrell or Mega?

* Bleiberg quotes Pascrell's spokesman as saying that "People's focus should be on the fact that Congressman Pascrell had a great meeting..." blah blah blah, but never points out the opposite view that people's focus should be on the fact that Congressman Pascrell's employee violently attacked two of his peaceful constituents, and that this powerful congressman is supporting his violent employee. Fair and balanced writing by Bleiberg? Obviously not!

* Bleiberg quotes a spokeman for the senior citizen who was physically attacked saying that he "didn't feel physically threatened and wasn't bothered by Mega." At no point in the article is the point made that I most definitely felt physically threatened -- it actually went beyond threats, too, as multiple witnesses and I have indicated, I was physically shoved -- and I was most definitely bothered by Mega's violation of my free-speech rights!

But then I did a bit of research on Erika Bleiberg... and a light bulb went off inside my head.

As it turns out, Bleiberg is a professional PR flack!

According to Bleiberg's personal profile on LinkedIn.com, she has held a number of public relations positions:

* "Principal at EB-PR"
* "Public Relations Director at C.C. Sullivan Strategic Communications"
* "Marketing/Public Relations Director at Fines Herbes, Inc"

And more... and, on top of that, she is "Currently enrolled in the PR/Digital Marketing Certificate Program at NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies, focusing on social media and technology."

Groups she belongs to on LinkedIn include:

* "Social Media Marketing"
* "Public Relations and Communications Professionals"
* "PRSA-NY (PRSA New York Chapter)"
* "Public Relations and Communications Jobs Community"

She also lists her industry as "Public Relations and Communications," and one of her current positions as " Writer Baristanet.com (Broadcast Media industry) June 2010 — Present (3 months) Cover local news and public affairs stories."

So it's clear that Bleiberg to a large extent views herself as working in public relations, and clearly views media outlets -- for example, Baristanet.com -- as places in which to disseminate her less-than-fully-truthful spin. How pathetic of her. I wonder how folks like this sleep at night.

Now, it is possible that Bleiberg decided to write all this on her own. That said, it seems highly unlikely. For one thing, I did not see her at the Montclair forum. So somebody who was there must have told her about what happened -- and she has freely admitted that she was in touch with Pascrell's spokesman.

Is Pascrell so afraid that the truth will come out about his employee's affection for violence -- and his support for her and her actions! -- that he directed his staff to contact a professional PR flack to write a far less than fully truthful (not to mention rather lame) article on Baristanet.com?

*** The North New Jersey Tea Party Group continues to call on Congressman Pascrell to do the honorable thing, by immediately and permanently firing Ann Mega from his staff, and by sincerely apologizing for her thuggish behavior -- and his shameful support of it. ***

To date, no such actions or apology have been forthcoming.

Congressman Pascrell Supports Staffer Who Shoved Senior Citizen

Fellow Tea Partiers,

There is at least one aspect of what happened at Congressman Bill Pascrell's August 9th Forum on Senior Issues -- a forum open to the public, and held in a public building -- that is not getting nearly as much attention as it should: nobody disputes that Pascrell staffer Ann Mega physically attacked a senior citizen at this forum. Given this context, it is disgusting that Pascrell continues to show his support for his employee by not firing her, and by not apologizing for her thuggish behavior.

The reason that Pascrell and his staff know they can't get away with lying about what happened with regard to the particular senior citizen who was attacked is simple. A reporter for the Montclair Times personally witnessed Mega shove this senior citizen, and the reporter was honest enough and brave enough to write about it. Here is some of what the Montclair Times reporter wrote:

* "Ann Mega, Pascrell’s field representative, physically pushed [the senior citizen] out of the chambers..."

* "When [this senior citizen] ventured into the chambers, Mega put her hands on him and pushed him out of the room, an action witnessed by a Times reporter."

At no point in this Montclair Times article -- or a subsequent follow-up -- do Pascrell, his spokesman Paul Brubaker, Mega, or anybody connected with Pascrell's campaign deny that Mega physically attacked a senior citizen.

In fact, a thorough Google search of the internet turns up absolutely no evidence whatsoever of Pascrell, Brubaker, Mega, or anybody else associated with Pascrell's campaign denies that Mega physically attacked a senior citizen at the August 9th Forum on Senior Issues in Montclair!

In other words: their silence about the matter is their tacit admission that it happened.

This of course is bad enough -- Mega has no right to physically attack a senior citizen.

But it gets worse. By now -- more than a week after this incident -- Pascrell should have fired Mega, and sincerely apologized for her actions (which, after all, were undertaken in her role as Pascrell's field representative).

Pascrell's refusal to fire Mega, Pascrell's refusal to offer an apology for his employee's actions, Pascrell's refusal to do ANYTHING to right this wrong show that he supports her actions, and hopes that they blow over without any serious repercussions to him or to Mega.

In the private sector, Mega likely would have been fired by now. For one thing, companies don't want to risk potentially costly lawsuits by showing support for unhinged, physically violent employees.

But in Washington D.C. -- or at least, the part of Washington D.C. that Bill Pascrell Jr. inhabits -- apparently shoving senior citizens is permissible.

I find this reprehensible, as any fair-minded American would. Senior citizens do not deserve to have the use of physical force initiated against them by any government employee -- much less a key staff member of a powerful United States congressman!

Eyewitness Describes Physical Attack by Congressman Pascrell's (D-NJ) Employee at Town Hall Meeting

Fellow Tea Partiers,

As you may have heard by now, this past Monday, August 9th at a public forum in Montclair, New Jersey hosted by Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), I was physically attacked by Pascrell's employee Ann Mega.

Although there were multiple witnesses to this attack, Pascrell and his staff are choosing to lie about this incident, hoping that it will go away. For example, a story on the Montclair Times website notes that "Paul Brubaker, Pascrell's spokesman, said he spoke to Mega, who denied touching Kalinowski."

Pascrell and his staff are sorely mistaken if they think that they will get away with such blatant lies.

Toward that end, we have interviewed one of the eyewitnesses to the attack, Patricia Kehlback. (Thank you very much Patricia for your responses to my questions.) Read for yourself what this eyewtiness has to say about Ann Mega's attack on me, and Pascrell's support for her:

***

Question 1. Yes or no -- did you personally witness Congressman Bill Pascrell's employee Ann Mega physically attack me -- not just my reaction to her attack, but the actual attack itself -- at Pascrell's Forum on Senior Issues in Montclair, New Jersey on August 9, 2010?

Patricia's response: "Yes; at that time; I was looking around the room to see if [Patricia's friend] Ellen had arrived yet; as I always save a seat for her and saw you walk in; and I saw this woman come right at you; and forcefully push you... you appeared stunned."

***

Question 2. Would you characterize Mega's touching of me as gentle and friendly, or something more rough and sinister?

Patricia's response: "Oh, she was like a Bulldog and approached you as one."

***

Question 3. Do you think Mega was trying to grab me, push me, or something else?

Patricia's response: "She pushed you to get out of there."

***

Question 4. The Montclair Times notes that "Paul Brubaker, Pascrell’s spokesman, said he spoke to Mega, who denied touching Kalinowski." What is your reaction to Mega's claim that she didn't touch me?

Patricia's response: "That is a complete lie; she most certainly touched you."

***

Question 5. My immediate response to Mega physically attacking me was to shout at her, "Get your hands off of me!" Shortly thereafter, Congressman Pascrell shouted at me that "You don't talk to a lady that way!" Do you consider it to be ladylike behavior to physically attack a peaceful American citizen? Why or why not?

Patricia's response: "She was out of order; as was Pascrell. What right does a Woman have, to behave in this manner; yet, if it were the other way around; (the man touching a woman) the man would be arrested."

***

We will have much, much more to say about Ann Mega's physical attacks on two of Pascrell's peaceful constituents -- the other of whom is a senior citizen -- and Pascrell's support for her, in coming days. In the meantime, for more information about these attacks, please refer to the following August 12th blog post:

Calling on Congressman Pascrell to Immediately Fire Staffer Ann Mega for Physically Attacking Two Peaceful Constituents

Fellow Tea Partiers,

During the August 9th town hall meeting hosted by Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. at the township of Montclair's Municipal Building, Pascrell's field representative Ann Mega physically attacked two of his constituents. These constituents had a right to attend the public forum, were acting peacefully, and were attacked at least in part because they were exercising their unalienable moral right to free speech.

*** As such, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group calls on Congressman Pascrell to do the honorable thing, by immediately and permanently firing Ann Mega from his staff. ***

Pascrell serves as the congressman from New Jersey's 8th congressional district. During the start of Pascrell's town hall meeting in Montclair -- which was billed on his website as a "Forum on Senior Issues" -- Pascrell staffer Ann Mega physically attacked Roland Straten, a constituent and resident of Montclair who happens to be Pascrell's opponent in this November's general election.

According to the Montclair Times, "Ann Mega, Pascrell’s field representative, physically pushed Roland Straten, Pascrell’s Republican challenger, out of the chambers as Straten attempted to distribute campaign literature to the roughly 90 people attending the forum." The Montclair Times further notes that, "Straten, who is seeking to unseat Pascrell this November, stood in the hallway outside the Council Chambers before the forum began, handing out campaign literature. When he ventured into the chambers, Mega put her hands on him and pushed him out of the room, an action witnessed by a Times reporter."

Approximately 10-15 minutes after this attempt by Mega to deny one of Pascrell's constituents his unalienable rights at a forum open to the general public, I arrived at the town hall meeting. As the meeting had started several minutes prior to my arrival, I quietly headed to the back of the room, pulled out some homemade tea party fliers from my backpack, and started to peacefully distribute them to whomever in the room wanted them.

(Those of you receiving this message by e-mail will find the relevant flier attached; those of you receiving this message by Facebook can obtain the flier by sending an e-mail to nnjteaparty@gmail.com. Feel free to copy, print, and distribute the flier as you see fit. Unlike Ann Mega, I have nothing to hide.)

Shortly after I started quietly distributing the fliers, Mega rushed up to me and forcefully placed her hands on me, attempting to either grab me or push me. My natural reaction to this unexpected violation of my First Amendment rights was to shout "Get your hands off of me!"

At that point, Pascrell himself starting belligerently asking me questions such as -- according to video I've obtained of the incident -- "Do you have a problem?" He also berated me, for example yelling "You don't talk to a lady that way!"

Apparently when a woman physically attacks a man, Pascrell thinks that speaking up about it in an effort to stop the attack is ungentlemanly.

In other words, when one of Pascrell's staffers physically attacked me, his shameful response was to defend her, and yell at the person who was physically attacked!

I informed Pascrell that -- since his meeting was open to the general public, and since taxpayers were paying for it -- I had every right to be in that room, and every right to exercise my First Amendment rights in it (for example, by passing out a homemade flier). I also said "she put her hands on me, she has no right to do that, no right."

Pascrell's response to that? "We're having a meeting here." In other words, Pascrell showed absolutely no concern at all that his staffer had physically attacked me -- only 10-15 minutes after she had attacked another peaceful constituent in that very same room.

Following this, at some point, according to the Montclair Times, "Paul Brubaker, Pascrell’s spokesman, said he spoke to Mega, who denied touching Kalinowski. 'He practically accused a 4-and-a-half-foot-tall woman of assault in the middle of a public forum.'"

Mega's denial that she touched me is a blatant lie, as anybody in the back of the room at the time who was paying attention knows. It is disgraceful that Pascrell would permit his staff to physically attack two of his constituents. It is even worse that he would then permit them to lie about at least one of those attacks shortly afterward.

(Brubaker's comments do bring up some questions. For example: do Pascrell and his staff think it's morally permissible for government employees to physically assault their peaceful constituents, so long as those employees are female?)

And of course, the proper context to think about Mega's thuggishness is not that she happens to be a woman, which is completely irrelevant. What's relevant is that Pascrell's job is to protect his constituents' rights, and it's his staff's job to help Pascrell accomplish this. In general, government's reason to exist is to protect the unalienable rights of all individuals, and as such, this renders it especially disturbing when any government employee -- and in particular, a congressman's staff member -- acts to violate the very rights that they are entrusted to protect.

*** Based on her multiple initiations of force against peaceful constituents, Ann Mega has proven herself totally unfit to hold any government position. As such, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group calls for her immediate and permanent dismissal from Pascrell's staff. ***

And regarding gentlemanly behavior... it would be gentlemanly if Pascrell sincerely apologized for his staffer's thuggery, and for his staff's reprehensible attempt to cover up at least one of these attacks with an obvious lie. (As of this writing, I have yet to receive any type of an apology from Pascrell, Mega, or anybody else connected with Pascrell or Mega.)

We await word from Pascrell, and will have more to say (and do) about all of this should he -- not his staff, he -- fail to directly respond and address this unfortunate and regrettable situation to our full satisfaction. Pascrell can reach me at any time through e-mail at:

The Intolerable Act of 2010

In 1774, the British Parliament passed five laws related to the American colonies; these laws became known as the Intolerable Acts, and galvanized American resistance against tyranny. Now, in 2010, the Democratic Party has just made into law its own Intolerable Act -- the unconstitutional hostile takeover of the healthcare industry. Just as tea partiers of the 1770s fought -- and won -- a long, hard-fought war against London tyrants, expect the tea partiers of the 2010s to fight and eventually win against the suit-wearing savages in Washington P.C. who just made the Intolerable Act of 2010 into law. I encourage all Americans who value their unalienable moral rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness to actively join the tea party movement!

Politicians Should Offer Evidence -- or Resign in Shame

Tens of thousands of pro-liberty Americans -- tea partiers -- recently went to Washington P.C. to demand that Washington refrain from enacting into law the unconstitutional hostile takeover of the healthcare industry. As it so happens, the lamestream media reports the accusations of four congressmen -- John Lewis, Andre Carson, Emanuel Cleaver, and House Majority Whip James Clyburn -- that some protestors were insulting these anti-liberty politicians with the n-word. While the collectivist media unethically took these four at their word (rather than doing their job by investigating the claims, and then reporting the truth, no matter what that truth may be), these four have produced absolutely no evidence to back up their claims. And, as it also turns out, video of the four walking together at the precise time they were supposedly insulted shows absolutely no such insults being used (nor anybody reacting to these alleged insults, and surely there would have been reactions -- by these four politicians, and by the protestors). These four should either produce evidence of what they claim, or resign.

Like racism, hatemongering has no place in polite society, and if these four politicians engaged in hatemongering by falsely and deliberately slandering peaceful protestors -- as likely seems the case, according to the evidence presently available -- then they should be held responsible for their thoroughly vile behavior.

For a more complete explanation of why the odds are probable that these four Congressional Black Caucus members are engaged in a repugnant hoax, please refer to the following article (entitled "N-Word-Gate") by Jack Wakeland and Robert Tracinski:

Democrat Admits Congress "Will Keep Stealing"

Just as legalized slavery is still slavery, legalized theft is still theft. As such, politicians who promote "spreading the wealth" -- the socialist euphemism for legalized theft -- should be vocally condemned. Today in the U.S., the leading proponent of forcibly taking some individuals' hard-earned income (punishing the virtue of peaceful economic productivity) so that the iron fist of government can "spread" it to people who did not earn that income, is the Democratic Party (although far, far too many Republicans deserve condemnation in this regard, too). And, at times, the Democrats themselves aren't quite so careful about how they spin all this, which leads some of them to frankly admit their deeply immoral behavior. Take, for example, Democratic House of Representatives member Tom Periello. When meeting with the Jefferson (Virginia) Area Tea Party on March 16th, Periello admitted that "If you don't tie our [Congress'] hands, we will keep stealing." Somebody ought to teach Periello -- and all politicians that participate in legalized theft, not to mention the leftists who support them -- that theft is deeply immoral. Failing that, let us hope that American voters have the audacity to vote these suit-wearing thugs out of office at earliest opportunity, by electing folks who value every individual's unalienable moral rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. And, let us also repeal the 16th Amendment, the deplorable rights-violating amendment that made theft-by-government constitutional.

Arrogant Obama Doesn't Give a Damn What Voters Have to Say

During Obama's recent State of the Union address, he openly expressed his contempt for American voters: "But if anyone from either party has a better approach that will bring down premiums, bring down the deficit, cover the uninsured, strengthen Medicare for seniors and stop insurance company abuses, let me know." Political commentator and TIA Daily editor Robert Tracinski provided a response that's an instant classic for its dead-on skewering of Obama's arrogance: "Let him know? How do you suppose we ought to let the president know what we think? Perhaps we should all show up at town hall meetings, or hold giant rallies across the nation and on the DC mall. Perhaps pollsters could fan out across the country to ask us our opinions. Perhaps Republicans in Congress could propose alternative legislation. Perhaps we could even hold an election -- let's make it easy for the president and hold it in left-leaning Massachusetts -- that would serve as a referendum on health care. Of course, we did all of those things, and the president made it abundantly clear that he doesn't give a damn what we have to say."

Game On!

On January 22nd lawyers representing The Committee to Recall Senator Robert Menendez filed their brief supporting the Recall initiative. The court requested that the same brief be served to Senator Menace--Menendez. In an article dated January 26th that was posted on NJ.com and Politico, Senator Menendez, on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee that he heads, revealed his strategy to drive a wedge between moderate voters and tea-party-type conservatives. See: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/32003.html.

Since the recall effort was initiated by “tea-party-type conservatives” (myself included), it is probably logical to assume that we finally got the Senator’s attention-something we couldn’t do in a summer filled with faxes, petitions, rallies, phone calls, and letters. While his Democratic Party constituents may view his strategy as a way to preserve their party and their careers, others may see it as a transparent effort to preserve his own career by dividing the movement that seeks to unseat him. It’s the old “divide and conquer” philosophy that has worked well in historical battles, and it reveals the heart of a man who is more interested in political preservation than listening to the will of the people he represents. The question remains whether or not this strategy will work here in NJ.

One thing we can be certain of, an alliance between TEA Party patriots and the Republican Party would be a force that most likely would defeat Menendez at the ballot box. While many within the TEA Party movement are just as disappointed with the Republican Party as they are with the Democratic Party, I’ll refer to another old philosophy: the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, Constitutionalist, Conservative, Libertarian, or any other affiliation, we need to keep our focus on the challenge before us. We need to unite against a common enemy elitist who has undermined our prosperity and trampled over our Constitution. We can sort out our differences later.

On behalf of the Committee to Recall Senator Robert Menendez, I ask all NJ patriots to join forces to defeat our common enemy and restore the principles of government that prospered us and protected our liberties. Massachusetts (and America by extension) may have claimed a victory with the election of Senator Scott Brown – now it’s our turn to send the elitists packing – and victory is within our grasp!

Thomas Jefferson: Tea Partier

Our federal government has gotten out of control, seeking to violate individual rights to a massively intolerable degree. As such, the tea party movement -- the largest grassroots pro-liberty uprising of our lifetimes -- has surged forward to battle those politicians (and their enablers) who detest liberty. The tea partiers scored a resounding victory with the recent defeat of an anti-liberty Massachusetts Democrat who sought to win election to the U.S. Senate. This reminds me of words from founder Thomas Jefferson: "Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government... whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights." No doubt that were he alive today, Jefferson would be at the forefront of the tea party movement. Congratulations to all tea partiers -- past and present! Let us now not rest on our laurels, but instead grasp the momentum we have to further promote the cause of liberty.

Even Leftists Turning Against the Empty Suit Barack 0bama

It amuses me that even 0bama's fellow leftists are starting to turn against him. A key reason for this is 0bama's penchant for breaking his word. For example, on October 27, 2007, candidate 0bama said "I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." That promise has obviously been broken. Another example comes from January 22, 2009 when 0bama signed a executive order closing the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba terrorist detention center "as soon as practicable, and no later than one year from the date of this order." Yet here we are one year later, and the Guantanamo facility is still open. Interestingly, both of these were promises made to please 0bama's fellow socialists -- and he still broke his word! This has led to wailing and gnashing of teeth on the political left, such as this excerpt from a letter to the editor written by a hardcore leftist and published in my local weekly community newspaper: "I voted for President (Barack) 0bama. I believed, perhaps finally, we would get a person of courage and integrity. Sadly, I was wrong." Expect more political woes for 0bama as additional leftists discover what most Americans have already figured out: 0bama is an empty suit.

Encouraging Tea Partiers to Write Letters to the Editor

Frequently, tea partiers ask, "What can I do to help?"

One suggestion for you as you seek to promote liberty, free markets, and individual rights: actively write letters to the editor!

There are many benefits to doing this. For example, when you get published -- and be patient, you will! -- you will help thousands of others learn more about your views and principles. In turn, this emboldens the thousands upon thousands of individuals who may share your views, but don't quite hold them quite as passionately, or may simply not have time to write letters.

Also, thousands upon thousands of individuals could be swayed in part by what you have to say. Just look at Obama's plunging poll numbers -- clearly, millions of Americans have a meaningfully less favorable view of their president now than they did on inauguration day about a year ago. Part of this is attributable to the anti-reality philosophy Obama has chosen for himself, and the numerous poor decisions that he has made as a result of his harmful philosophy. But part of this is also attributable to the tea party movement in general, which has been vocal about its desire for the federal government to stop infringing upon Americans' unalienable moral rights. While part of being vocal means holding in-person rallies from time-to-time, in-person rallies aren't a daily -- or even a weekly or monthly -- activity for many of us. But you can write letters to the editor as your time permits, any day, any week!

Personally, I write about 3-5 letters per week -- and I send them to multiple publications. But if you don't have time to write that much, try 2-3 per week, or even 2-3 per month. And the letters don't have to be lengthy, either -- in fact, many newspapers prefer to publish pithy letters, such as the following two-sentence letter of mine published in its entirety by the New York Daily News this past December 14th:

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2009/12/14/2009-12-14_untitled__vox14ed.html

How do you write an effective Letter to the Editor? Click on the following link, which takes you to the article "How to Write an Effective Letter to the Editor" by political commentator -- and member of the Facebook page for the North New Jersey Tea Party Group -- Robert Tracinski:

http://www.aynrand.org/site/News2?news_iv_ctrl=-1&page=NewsArticle&id=11070

You can send your letters to the editor to a wide variety of publications. For example, I send every letter I write to the New York Post at letters@nypost.com (making sure, as always, to include my name, address, cell phone number, and the phrase "OK to Print/Publish"). I've been fortunate to have over 20 letters of mine published in the New York Post over the last year and a half. And, since the New York Post enjoys the sixth-largest circulation of any newspaper in America, my letters have no doubt been read by plenty of folks.

Interestingly enough, though, I may actually get more mileage out of submitting letters to the editor to much smaller, more local publications. I live in Clifton, New Jersey, and here we have a local (and free) community newspaper delivered to the doorstep of each Cliftonite every Friday -- it's called the Clifton Journal. I e-mail the Clifton Journal two letters every week (since this paper is published weekly, I don't send them every letter I write) via cliftonjournal@northjersey.com. And, since the competition for publication is a lot less than that of a paper like the New York Post, I get published on average 2-4 times per month.

Odds are that you live in a town or city with a free community newspaper; start writing to them regularly and see what happens!

In general, I am not a fan of Wikipedia. (Wonder why? Click on this link.) Nevertheless, the following Wikipedia page lists dozens of New Jersey-based newspapers, many of which accept letters to the editor via e-mail:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey_Newspapers

Also, undertake activities that leverage any letters that you do get published. At the end of every month, I use Facebook to message about 100 individuals -- some personal friends, but most of them media personalities -- with links to some of my letters to the editor that get published. No doubt that most of these people don't click on the links I send them. But that's not the point -- the point is, no doubt that some do (even if I don't know for certain which ones)! As such, my letters not only get in the hands of readers of the New York Post and the Clifton Journal, they also get in the hands of some of our country's leading opinion makers.

In addition, I leverage what I write by regularly posting comments to the Duke Over America blog -- created by my good friend Thomas LaDuke, who is also a member of the Facebook page for the North New Jersey Tea Party Group. Even if I don't get a particular letter published, I can post it to the Duke Over America blog. Similarly, you can start your own blog, or become a contributor to a friend's blog that might already be in existence. That way, you can post what you write to a blog. (I also use my Facebook profile to link to every blog piece I publish, so that my nearly 2,000 Facebook friends are informed that I've published something. Some won't read my blog posts, but based on feedback I've received, many do.)

And of course -- I recently became one of the contributors to the New Jersey Tea Parties United blog, the blog you are reading right now. No doubt that in the future, I'll be posting political commentary to this blog. I hope you enjoy what I will have to say in coming weeks and months.

In the meantime... I strongly encourage you take up your metaphorical pen and starting writing letters to the editor. To paraphrase a common saying, the letter to the editor is mightier than the sword!

America Rising - With Special Kudos to the States of Nebraska and Louisiana

If you have been following the Health Care debacle, you are well aware of the special negotiations and back door deals that have been stricken to impose the liberal ideologically driven health care bill upon the American people. Two state senators in particular exemplify the worst of what has befallen our great nation–elitism and career insurance. While elitism is easy to understand, being the attitude of “I’m superior to you and know better than you; therefore, my opinion should not be questioned”–career insurance is a more subtle character flaw. It pretends to do what’s good for those it represents, when all the while it is really only concerned with getting re-elected and furthering its own career.

Admittedly, I don’t know much about either Senator Ben Nelson from Nebraska or Senator Mary Landrieu from Louisiana, but I can tell you something about the patriots that live in their states. Both Senators fell victim to the temptations and pressures the White House and the democratic congress were imposing upon them-or were they merely more adept at making deals? The truth is that we simply don’t know their motivation (or their weakness, as the case may be). It is possible they gave in to pressure; it is also possible they struck a good deal for their state in hopes of bringing home the bacon and thereby securing their subsequent elections with their constituents. However, they didn’t count on the integrity, patriotism, and constitutional understanding of their citizens.

In the good state of Nebraska, Senator Ben Nelson’s poll numbers have exponentially declined, rending a death blow to his chances for re-election; and in the good state of Louisiana, the Secretary of State has just approved the petitions to recall Senator Mary Landrieu. These states deserve the admiration of the rest of us, as they rose above personal gratification and special sweetheart deals to support the greater good of our country. In other words, they didn’t sell out! Let this be an example to all of us and to the elitists in Congress. We the People can reclaim and restore the principles of republicanism at its finest if we look beyond our own short term interests. We need good men and women in congress and in all branches of government. Men and women who aren’t afraid to make good decisions based on what is right- and not on what might ingratiate them with their base (like the bridge nowhere in Alaska). The New World Order and the socialistic liberals may have thought America was in their grasp-that we would be willing to surrender our autonomy and sell out our country and our ideals for free healthcare (like we believe that really exists), or any other pot of gold at the end of the illusionary rainbow, but they didn’t count on patriots-the likes of which live in Nebraska, and Louisiana, and I’m happy to say in my home state of New Jersey. The truth is America and our ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are not dead–we are rediscovering and recommitting ourselves to the principles that made this country great in the past and will prosper it once again in the future – as long as we remain strong. Therefore I say – Long live America!

Constitutionality Issue Regarding the Recall of US Senators

On behalf of the Committee to Recall Senator Menendez, I would like to state that the Committee is aware of the Constitutional questions regarding the recall of a US Senator and we are prepared to address those questions at the appropriate time.

However, the Constitutional question is not to be construed as the legal issue encountered with the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State is neither court nor jury and ruling on legal argument is not within their purview. State law requires that the Secretary of State either approve or deny the submitted petitions based on wether the petitions conform to the clearly defined state statute. At this point, this is not a Constitutional issue - it is a matter of the Secretary of State complying with NJ laws.

To keep abreast of what's happening with the recall, visit either: www.njteapartiesunited.org or njrecallnow.blogspot.com. At either site you can view the prepared Press Release that we encourage everyone to circulate.

Specific Steps YOU Can Take to Promote Liberty, Free Markets, and Individual Rights

Folks who are rightfully frustrated with the direction of our country today frequently ask "What can I do to help change things for the better?" The purpose of this blog post is to keep you energized in our fight for liberty and individual rights, and to suggest some specific steps you can take that will help promote our principles:

* Become active in your local tea party movement -- the largest grassroots movement for liberty in our lifetimes! We will win some battles (as the defeat of spendaholic Governor Corzine at the polls last year shows); we will lose some battles. But no matter what, we must keep vocally advocating liberty!!!

* Get your pro-liberty Facebook friends to join the group page for the North New Jersey Tea Party Group!!! With over 1,800 members, we are the largest New Jersey-based tea party group on Facebook in terms of members. Let's shoot for 2,000... 5,000... 10,000!!! This group will remain active in spreading the word about and sponsoring pro-liberty events, particularly in New Jersey. It takes very little time to invite some of your Facebook friends to join our group -- do your part for liberty by sending out invitations today!!!

North New Jersey Tea Party Group's Facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=172402990061

* And of course, you can become active in more than one tea party organization. Some additional tea party groups located in New Jersey can be found under the heading "Find Your Local Organizer Here" on the website for New Jersey Tea Parties United:

http://www.njteapartiesunited.org/

* Write letters to the editor. You can send the same letter to multiple publications, to cut down on the amount of work it takes. Some newspapers in New Jersey that you can write include:

(1) Newark Star-Ledger: eletters@starledger.com
(2) Bergen County Record: letterstotheeditor@northjersey.com
(3) Morris County Daily Record: letters@dailyrecord.com
(4) North Jersey Herald News: hnletters@northjersey.com

Also, some great tips on writing effective letters to the editor can be found at:

http://www.aynrand.org/site/News2?id=11070

* Donate your money -- whatever you are comfortable sending -- to politicians that share your principles as regards less taxation, less spending, and less government control over our lives. Doing so in competitive districts -- even those that aren't your own -- can be incredibly helpful to candidates.

* One of the very most important -- and effective! -- things you can do is to discuss the issues you care about with your friends and family. For every one person attending a tea party, or marching on D.C., there are ten -- 100 -- 1,000 Americans who may not be there in person but who are there in spirit. Encourage these folks to become more active in the tea party movement -- some will, some won't. But even those that won't, are still more likely to vote against harmful politicians due to your efforts. Remember: being politically active means that you may not directly see the enormous beneficial effect you have on others. How many thousands of individuals in New Jersey voted against the taxaholic Corzine in part because of the pro-liberty enthusiasm of folks like YOU??? PLENTY!!!

* A final suggestion: if you have not yet read the novel "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, pick up a copy for yourself and read it ASAP! The mass-market paperback version can be bought for less than $10 (excluding shipping) at Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Shrugged-Ayn-Rand/dp/0451191145/ref=tmm_mmp_title_0

And of course, you can also read it for free by checking a copy out of your local library!
