Montclair State University (Montclair, NJ) Violates the Free-Speech Rights of Millions

The North New Jersey Tea Party Group was pleased when, recently, The Daily Caller and several other New Media outlets highlighted the obscene rantings of self-proclaimed Communist Grover Furr, a professor at Montclair State University (MSU), located in Montclair, New Jersey. The Daily Caller's recent article quotes Furr as stating that he has "spent many years researching this and similar questions [Khrushchev’s charges against Stalin] and I have yet to find one crime… that Stalin committed.” You read that right: a Communist professor at one of New Jersey's taxpayer-funded universities claims that he cannot even "find one crime" that one of the biggest mass murderers in world history committed. Even an outlet as leftist as The New York Times notes that "Millions of people were killed under Stalin as a result of forced collectivization, deportation of ethnic groups, imprisonment in the Gulag and party purges, among other tactics." Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/31/world/europe/31russia.html And of course, there are numerous other online sources that detail -- through words and photos -- Stalin's gruesome murders. We have decided not to link to some of the more ghastly photos we easily located in a less-than-one-minute Google search. The Daily Caller's article about the Communist professor that New Jersey taxpayers are forced to support is located at: http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/14/professor-defends-stalin-socialism-at-student-organized-debate/ We encourage you to read that article, and view the video embedded within it. Toward the end of The Daily Caller's article, The Daily Caller comments that "A statement obtained by The Daily Caller from MSU defended the First Amendment rights of the individual: 'Montclair State University is an open university in what is fortunately a free society. As a consequence, we would never seek to censor or interfere with such an event, no matter how absurd anyone might find some of the views expressed. Free speech is the cornerstone of our democracy, and it is a principle that is easy to defend when we are in agreement with, or at least not offended by, the views being expressed. We are only really tested in our adherence to the principle when the views being expressed are abhorrent to us.'" But of course, Montclair State University is NOT defending the principle of free speech in action (which The Daily Caller should have noted). How so? Simple: as an organization that willingly accepts taxpayer funds -- read: part of your hard-earned income that has been forcibly confiscated by the State of New Jersey via threat of imprisonment -- it willingly violates the free-speech rights of all those millions of individuals who are forced against their will to pay for Communist professor Grover Furr's salary. To put it another way: Furr indeed has the right to make asinine statements. But neither Furr nor Montclair State University have any sort of moral right to force you, or any other individual, to "pay for the microphone." Properly understood, free-speech rights include the right to refrain from paying for speech with which you disagree. The North New Jersey Tea Party Group recognizes that the only way in which to end this rights-violating situation is for a complete separation of education and state. Only when the state is not in charge of leftist indoctrination centers such as Montclair State University, are individual New Jersey taxpayers able to decide whether or not such anti-education entities deserve your financial support. And, to be clear: the North New Jersey Tea Party Group firmly believes that the leftist, government indoctrination of millions upon millions of American children over the last several decades contributed to the recent re-election of the most anti-American president in U.S. history. As an organization that deeply values freedom, free speech, and education -- as opposed to tyranny, government-subsidized speech, and indoctrination -- the North New Jersey Tea Party Group calls for a transition period in which the federal government, as well as New Jersey's state and local governments, remove themselves from the education industry. In other words, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group calls for the complete separation of education and state. The North New Jersey Tea Party Group is the largest New Jersey-based tea party organization on Facebook in terms of group page members, with well over 4,000 members via our two Facebook groups (see links below). Announcing Our Official Support for Congressional Candidate Mia Love

All, Previously, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group has announced its official support for the candidacies of Ted Cruz (for U.S. Senate from Texas), Congressman Scott Garrett (for the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey's 5th congressional district), and Richard Mourdock (for U.S. Senate from Indiana). We continue to support each of these candidates, and today, we are proud to announce our official support for the candidacy of Mia Love (for the U.S. House of Representatives from Utah's 4th congressional district). Many of you have told us that you were impressed -- even moved -- by Mia's speech at the Republican National Convention. You can view her stirring speech through the following YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4BM_B0PTvM To learn more about Mia's candidacy, please visit her campaign's official website, located at: http://www.love4utah.com/ Also FYI, Mia's campaign Facebook page can be found at: http://www.facebook.com/miablove In addition, her Twitter handle is: @MiaBLove Mia presently serves as the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah. I have donated some of my personal money to Mia's campaign, in the hopes that this inspires you to do so as well. (Should you decide to donate, please follow all applicable laws.) In addition, I would like to bring to your attention the following arguments about who else to support in the upcoming elections: "Who to Support in the Election" by Robert Tracinski "Principle vs. Pragmatism in Supporting Romney-Ryan" by Craig Biddle "Romney-Ryan 2012 -- Ayn Rand Forever" by Craig Biddle "Further Thoughts on Why Objectivists Should Actively Campaign for Romney-Ryan" by Craig Biddle To quote Bosch Fawstin (Twitter: @BoschFawstin): "Obama's not running against Romney, he's running against America. Vote accordingly." Personally, I support these arguments, even though I fully recognize that neither Mitt Romney nor Scott Brown are close to being consistently pro-liberty. As such, I have also donated some personal money to the campaigns of Mitt Romney for U.S. President and Senator Scott Brown (for U.S. Senate from Massachusetts). While the North New Jersey Tea Party Group has not announced its official support for either of these two candidates, it is my hope that you will personally consider the arguments made for their candidacies at the links above. Folks who are interested in donating to these two candidates can do so at the following links (as always, please follow all applicable laws): http://www.mittromney.com/ http://www.scottbrown.com/ The North New Jersey Tea Party Group is the largest New Jersey-based tea party organization on Facebook, with well over 4,000 members between our two Facebook group pages.

Senator Menendez (D-NJ) Embarrasses Himself During His Twitter Town Hall Meeting

Earlier today, anti-liberty U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) hosted a Twitter town hall meeting that he promptly turned into an embarrassing fiasco.

Prior to the Twitter town hall, the senator encouraged folks to send him questions via the Twitter hashtag #AskMenendez. But -- predictably -- Senator Menendez avoided every single one of the tough questions -- such as, why does he support Barack Obama, who has openly admitted that under his energy plans, "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket?"

Coward.

But even that didn't save him from embarrassment.

For example, @SenatorMenendez tweeted "My bill will end subsidies, invest in alts" ("alts" meaning companies and other entities – think Solyndra -- trying to provide so-called alternative energy). In other words, the senator's claim that "my bill will end subsidies" is an obvious lie, because "invest in alts" means... you guessed it: subsidizing alternative energy.

So Senator Menendez plans to end subsidies by… funding more subsidies?!?

To cite another example, @SenatorMenendez tweeted: “We can support @WhiteHouse plan to get 54.5 mpg by 2025” -- meaning, an increase in mandated fuel efficiency by auto manufacturers. As somebody who happens to have a degree in mechanical engineering, I can tell you with certainty that one key way auto manufacturers raise fuel economy when government forces them to is by reducing the amount of weight in a vehicle – making those vehicles less safe. Literally thousands of Americans have needlessly lost their lives in auto accidents since government-mandated fuel economy standards were made into law decades ago. It’s simple: all else equal, heavier vehicles means safer vehicles. Yet, Senator Menendez is against the freedom of auto manufacturers to decide for themselves if making heavier, safer cars is in their rational best interests. No, instead Senator Menendez – who, like most of Congress, has absolutely no professional or educational background in engineering of any kind – wants to use D.C.’s numerous guns to force auto manufacturers to make cars that are less safe than they otherwise would be. How many Americans will needlessly die should Senator Menendez gets his legislative wishes?

We encourage more of our nation’s elected officials to host in-person town hall meetings. But, since far too many of our nation’s elected officials are too cowardly to meet with the voting public in person, we also encourage more of them to host Twitter town hall meetings.

No doubt Senator Menendez’ Twitter town hall meeting proved illuminating in a way he did not foresee.

The North New Jersey Tea Party Group is the largest New Jersey-based tea party organization in terms of Facebook group page members, with over 4,500 of them. For elections in 2012, we have announced our endorsement of Marco Rubio, for him to be asked to be the Republican Party’s vice-presidential nominee, no matter who eventually wins the nomination for president. We have also announced our official support for the candidacies of Ted Cruz (who seeks to become U.S. Senator from Texas), Richard Mourdock (who seeks to become U.S. Senator from Indiana), and Congressman Scott Garrett (the incumbent from New Jersey’s 5th congressional district).

Announcing Our Official Support for Three Candidates: Ted Cruz, Richard Mourdock, and Congressman Scott Garrett

Based upon member feedback, today the North New Jersey Tea Party Group is excited to announce its official support for three candidates for office: U.S. Congressman Scott Garrett, who seeks re-election from New Jersey’s 5th congressional district; Ted Cruz, who seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas; and Richard Mourdock, who seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Indiana!

Toward that end, I have donated some personal money toward the campaigns for each of these three individuals. I highly encourage you to do so as well -- even small amounts are very much appreciated! (Be sure to follow all applicable laws should you decide to donate.)

Donations to the campaigns of these three candidates by March 31st are particularly appreciated. This is the last date of the FEC filing before the primaries to be faced by Ted Cruz in Texas (primary date May 29th) and Richard Mourdock (primary date May 22nd). These candidates will want to show as much money raised as possible, from as many individual supporters as possible!

Some brief remarks about these three candidates, listed in no particular order:

1. Scott Garrett -- incumbent member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey's 5th congressional district

Campaign website: http://www.garrettforcongress.com/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/repscottgarrett
Twitter: NA

Other: Founder of the Constitution Caucus, Garrett authored an opinion piece entitled "Maintaining the Founders' Vision" which was published by the Washington Times. Here is a brief excerpt: "As chairman of the Constitution Caucus, I am dedicated to the restoration and promotion of the Founders’ vision for American democracy and the principles of freedom enshrined in our Constitution... Six years removed from the founding of the Constitution Caucus, I’m proud to see these efforts now coming to fruition. In January [2011], the House convened with a reading of the Constitution on the House floor for the first time in American history. Additionally, the House rules now require that all legislation contain a citation that indicates a constitutional justification for the law it proposes, a rule I have long championed and worked for years to implement." 2. Ted Cruz -- seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas

Campaign website: http://www.tedcruz.org/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/tedcruz
Twitter: @tedcruz

Other: Ted earned the endorsement of The Club for Growth, which remarks that "Former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz has dedicated his life to the defense of economic liberty and the U.S. Constitution. After Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison announced that she would not seek another term in 2012, it quickly became clear that Ted Cruz was the best choice to replace her. He's fought frivolous lawsuits that deter economic growth, defended private property rights, and opposed President Obama's moratorium on offshore drilling...all while arguing eight times before the United States Supreme Court - the most of any lawyer in Texas." 3. Richard Mourdock -- seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Indiana

Campaign website: http://richardmourdock.com/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/richardmourdock
Twitter: @richardmourdock

Other: Praised by Michelle Malkin as follows: "Richard Mourdock, Indiana’s former state treasurer, offers a fresh alternative with widespread support from both grassroots activists and local and state GOP officials. While others hedged their bets, Mourdock took the federal auto bailout head on, lodging a court complaint against the Chrysler bailout to expose its illegal abuse of shareholders and punitive impact on Indiana citizens. He was elected to the treasurer’s office in 2006, a tough year for Republicans, and was re-elected handily in 2010. Before politics, he worked in the private sector for 30 years managing businesses in the energy, environmental and construction industries. He’s never had a Beltway zip code." Liljenquist was elected to the Utah Senate in 2008, where he spearheaded state pension and Medicaid reforms that earned him the non-partisan Governing magazine’s 2011 “Public Official of the Year” award." Other: Carl's campaign is officially supported by The Club for Growth, which comments "Utah's 4th Congressional District is a new district created after the 2010 census, so this will be an open seat race. It's possible that the nominee will be determined by Utah's unique convention system, where any candidate who receives 60% of the votes from convention delegates becomes the automatic nominee. Far and away the best choice in the primary is State Representative Carl Wimmer, who is also endorsed by Club for Growth PAC backed Utah Senator Mike Lee. The video of this encounter is on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZcEHLr4gBg

North New Jersey Tea Party Group Endorses Marco Rubio for Vice President!!!

February 20, 2012

***** Based upon multiple factors including feedback from our group members, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group enthusiastically and officially endorses U.S. Senator Marco Rubio to be the Republican nominee for Vice President!!! *****

As such -- to the best of our knowledge -- the North New Jersey Tea Party Group becomes the first tea party organization in the nation to ever officially endorse any individual to be the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee.

(We have conducted a thorough online search to see if any other tea party organizations throughout the country have officially endorsed anybody -- Rubio or otherwise -- to become the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee. As of today, we have found no such endorsements. If we have inadvertently overlooked any, please let us know ASAP. Thank you.)

Incidentally, our endorsement of Senator Rubio to be the Republicans' vice-presidential nominee holds true no matter who ends up securing the Republican nomination for President.

As a reminder, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group officially suppored the candidacy of Rubio for the U.S. Senate back in 2010. Rubio's candidacy was one of ten that was officially supported by the group -- along with the candidacies of current U.S. Senators Pat Toomey, Ron Johnson, and Rand Paul; and current U.S. Congressman Tim Scott.

As an example of why the North New Jersey Tea Party Group supports Marco Rubio for vice-presidential nominee, here is his pro-liberty response to the Obama administration's desire to initiate the use of force against our fellow Americans who happen to be Catholics:

"This is not about contraception. It's not about social issues. This is a very simple constitutional principle. We have religious protections as part of our Constitution in the 1st Amendment, the right to express yourself religiously. You have in the case, the specific case of this bill, the Catholic Church that teaches its members that the use of contraception is wrong. You can disagree with that. But the bottom line is, should the federal government be able to go in and force them to pay for contraception, something they teach is wrong? The answer is no. That's protected under the Constitution.... We either believe in our Constitution or we don't."

We do not know of Senator Rubio's level of desire to be the Republican Party's vice-presidential nominee, if he happens to want such a nomination at all. Nevertheless, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group would like to see the Republican Party move decisely in favor of a consistent approach toward the advocacy and protection of all individuals' unalienable moral right to liberty. Should the Republican Party be wise enough to ask Senator Rubio to be its vice-presidential nominee, it would reflect well upon that party.

An Open Letter re: Fake Tea Party Candidate -- and Obvious Democratic Party Plant -- Peter DeStefano

The following is an open letter that is being sent to New Jersey's Director of Elections, Robert Giles:

September 20, 2010

Mr. Robert Giles
Director of Elections
225 West State Street
Trenton, NJ 08608

Mr. Giles,

I write to you to call for a formal investigation into the candidacy of Peter DeStefano in New Jersey's 3rd congressional district (NJ-3). The evidence shows that Mr. DeStefano's campaign is rooted in fraud, and as such, his name should not be permitted on November's ballot as the voters in NJ-3 select their next congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Even the Newark Star-Ledger recognizes that something is amiss, in a July 25th editorial entitled "Did Adler camp plant a fake candidate?":

http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2010/07/did_adler_camp_plant_a_fake_ca.html

Among the questions that New Jersey voters deserve answered:

* Current incumbent (and Democrat) John Adler claims that none of his current staff members has worked on DeStefano's campaign -- but what about past (including recent past) staff members?

* For example, how is it that out of thousands upon thousands of NJ-3 voters, of the 247 signatures on DeStefano's filing documents, one of them is Marshall Spevak, the December 2007-November 2008 Press Assistant for John Adler?

* The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that at present, "Spevak lives just doors from Adler" on the very same street! How close are Spevak and his family (multiple Spevaks signed DeStefano's candidacy documents) to Adler and his family, especially given that Spevak used to work for Adler, and that various Spevaks have donated thousands of dollars to Adler and other Democratic Party candidates?

* Given Spevak's involvement, and the fact that both notaries that signed off on DeStefano's filing documents are politically active Democrats, what other Democrats -- and Democratic Party officials -- were/are involved in DeStefano's campaign?

* How many of the other 246 signatures belong to politically active Democrats? How many of these have explicit ties to John Adler?

* DeStefano claims that a friend of his son's circulated the petition that Spevak signed. Why was DeStefano unable to name or produce his son's friend when asked to by the Philadelphia Inquirer? Does this supposed acquaintance even exist? Who really obtained Spevak's signature?

* Did any Democratic Party members collect signatures for DeStefano? If so, how many, and who are they?

* Why, in an interview with PolitickerNJ.com, why did DeStefano indicate that he left the Republican Party to become an independent, when in fact it was the Democratic Party that he left to become an independent?

* DeStefano filed his candidacy on June 8th, but was a registered Democrat until June 3rd. How many of the 247 signatures in his campaign filing were collected when DeStefano was still a registered Democrat?

* Why had no legitimate grassroots tea party organization in New Jersey ever heard of DeStefano prior to his candidacy?

* Why has not a single legitimate grassroots tea party organization in New Jersey announced its support for DeStefano's candidacy?

* Why does DeStefano claim to have "tried to get in on the Michael Smerconish debate" between Runyan and Adler, when the Michael Smerconish Show radio program director says that DeStefano never contacted them in this regard?

* Why has DeStefano -- an independent candidate with little money or name recognition -- agreed (multiple times) to be interviewed by reporter Jane Roh of the Courier-Post newspaper (as best as we can tell, the largest daily newspaper in terms of circulation based in South Jersey), only to back out of these scheduled interviews every single time?

* Were any laws broken -- for example, laws against fraud?

The state of Michigan recently began conducting some of their own investigations into Fake Tea Party Candidates/Democratic Party plants, and decided that 23 candidates would not be permitted on its ballots this November. In addition, criminal investigations regarding multiple individuals involved with the Fake Tea Party Candidates in Michigan are ongoing as of this writing.

Michigan takes the integrity of its ballots seriously. It is my hope that New Jersey will choose to do the same, by investigating Mr. DeStefano's candidacy, by not permitting his name to be on NJ-3 ballots this November, and by seriously pursuing criminal charges should they be warranted.

I look forward to your reply at the phone number below. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.

Kind regards,
Mark Kalinowski
