Announcing Our Official Support for Three Candidates: Ted Cruz, Richard Mourdock, and Congressman Scott Garrett

Based upon member feedback, today the North New Jersey Tea Party Group is excited to announce its official support for three candidates for office: U.S. Congressman Scott Garrett, who seeks re-election from New Jersey’s 5th congressional district; Ted Cruz, who seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas; and Richard Mourdock, who seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Indiana!

Toward that end, I have donated some personal money toward the campaigns for each of these three individuals. I highly encourage you to do so as well -- even small amounts are very much appreciated! (Be sure to follow all applicable laws should you decide to donate.)

Donations to the campaigns of these three candidates by March 31st are particularly appreciated. This is the last date of the FEC filing before the primaries to be faced by Ted Cruz in Texas (primary date May 29th) and Richard Mourdock (primary date May 22nd). These candidates will want to show as much money raised as possible, from as many individual supporters as possible!

Some brief remarks about these three candidates, listed in no particular order:

1. Scott Garrett -- incumbent member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey's 5th congressional district

Other: Founder of the Constitution Caucus, Garrett authored an opinion piece entitled "Maintaining the Founders' Vision" which was published by the Washington Times. Here is a brief excerpt: "As chairman of the Constitution Caucus, I am dedicated to the restoration and promotion of the Founders’ vision for American democracy and the principles of freedom enshrined in our Constitution... Six years removed from the founding of the Constitution Caucus, I’m proud to see these efforts now coming to fruition. In January [2011], the House convened with a reading of the Constitution on the House floor for the first time in American history. Additionally, the House rules now require that all legislation contain a citation that indicates a constitutional justification for the law it proposes, a rule I have long championed and worked for years to implement." 2. Ted Cruz -- seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas

Other: Ted earned the endorsement of The Club for Growth, which remarks that "Former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz has dedicated his life to the defense of economic liberty and the U.S. Constitution. After Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison announced that she would not seek another term in 2012, it quickly became clear that Ted Cruz was the best choice to replace her. He's fought frivolous lawsuits that deter economic growth, defended private property rights, and opposed President Obama's moratorium on offshore drilling...all while arguing eight times before the United States Supreme Court - the most of any lawyer in Texas." 3. Richard Mourdock -- seeks to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Indiana

Twitter: @richardmourdock

Other: Praised by Michelle Malkin as follows: "Richard Mourdock, Indiana’s former state treasurer, offers a fresh alternative with widespread support from both grassroots activists and local and state GOP officials. While others hedged their bets, Mourdock took the federal auto bailout head on, lodging a court complaint against the Chrysler bailout to expose its illegal abuse of shareholders and punitive impact on Indiana citizens. He was elected to the treasurer’s office in 2006, a tough year for Republicans, and was re-elected handily in 2010. Before politics, he worked in the private sector for 30 years managing businesses in the energy, environmental and construction industries. He’s never had a Beltway zip code." The North New Jersey Tea Party Group is the largest New Jersey-based tea party organization in terms of Facebook group page members, with over 4,500 of them. Also, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group has previously announced its endorsement of the selection of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio as the Republican Party’s vice-presidential candidate, no matter which candidate earns that party’s nomination as its presidential candidate. To the best of our knowledge, the North New Jersey Tea Party Group was the first tea party organization in the country to support Rubio in this manner.
